EM Elemental Mercury Long-Term Management and Storage

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM) is seeking a Contractor to establish a DOE capability for the long-term management and storage of domestic elemental mercury waste to meet the requirements of the Mercury Export Ban Act of 2008 (Public Law 110-414), as amended by the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, (Pub. L. 114-182), (MEBA). MEBA requires a DOE ownership or lease-hold interest in a storage facility, and the technical, management, and administrative services of a Contractor to perform all tasks necessary to ensure the safe and compliant long-term management and storage of elemental mercury waste as contemplated by MEBA.

Amendment 0002 to the Elemental Mercury Long-Term Management and Storage Final Request for Proposal has been posted to the “Final RFP” tab. The due date for proposals has been extended to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on June 1, 2022. DOE does not anticipate issuing any further amendments at this time.

4/21/2022 The U.S. Department of Energy expects to post all questions and answers as well as a corresponding amendment to the Elemental Mercury Long-Term Management and Storage Request for Proposal by approximately April 25, 2022. Additionally, the proposal due date will be extended to approximately May 20, 2022, with the extension to be finalized via the forthcoming amendment.

The Elemental Mercury Long-Term Management and Storage Final Request for Proposal has been posted to the Final RFP tab. Questions are due by April 1, 2022. As of the date of this announcement, proposals are due by May 6, 2022.
