February 2, 2008
The Environmental Management Consolidated Business Center (EMCBC) hosted the Seventeenth Annual Greater Cincinnati Regional Science Bowl at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, Ohio won the regional championship and will represent the Greater Cincinnati area, advancing to the DOE National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. to compete against 66 other regional winners in the DOE National Finals May 1-6, 2008.
Twenty-four teams of high school students in the Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky region competed in the rigorous science and math tournament. During the competition, a history making three-way tie, and re-match challenge took place, with Sycamore High School later prevailing in the double elimination finals.
This year's theme, "What's in Your Orbit?" celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Explorer I. Video presentations from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) were shown during competition breaks while participating teams received special edition books provided by JPL NASA about Explorer I and much more. The competition acknowledged the dedication and hard work of the best science and math students in the region, while promoting science education. Many thanks to the students, coaches, Cincinnati State, and volunteers; who made the competition a success.
