Donald Metzler Named 2008 Federal Engineer of the Year Award Recipient

The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) has named Donald Metzler as a Federal Engineer of the Year for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Metzler is the Federal Project Director for the Moab, Utah, Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project, which is managed by the DOE Environmental Management Grand Junction Office in Colorado. The Federal Engineer of the Year is selected by a panel of judges established by the NSPE. These judges consider engineering achievements, education, continuing education, professional/ technical society activities, NSPE membership, awards or honors, and civic and humanitarian activities.

Engineers employed by a federal agency with at least 50 engineers worldwide are eligible. Candidates are nominated by their employing federal agency. Metzler was nominated by DOE Headquarters Deputy Chief Operating Officer Cynthia Anderson.

The NSPE is the recognized voice and advocate of licensed Professional Engineers. Founded in 1934, NSPE strengthens the engineering profession by promoting engineering licensure and ethics, enhancing the engineer image, advocating and protecting PE's legal rights at the national and state levels, publishing professional news, and providing continuing education opportunities.
