EMCBC Recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy for Its Outstanding Record in Supporting Small Business
June 2008

The Department of Energy's (DOE) Environmental Management Consolidated Business Center (EMCBC) received a "Special Recognition of Achievement" award during the DOE's Ninth Annual Small Business Conference, held June 24-26 in San Antonio, Texas. The award was based on the EMCBC's unique operational business model and commitment to increasing small business participation within our contracting activities. The award was presented during the DOE 2007 Secretarial Small Business Awards Luncheon by Jeffrey Kupfer, Acting Deputy Secretary of Energy, and Theresa Alvillar-Speake, Director, DOE Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization. Accepting the award on the behalf of the EMCBC were Noelle Spalding, EMCBC Small Business Program Manager, and Karen Bahan, Office of Contracting Policies and Administrative Support Team Lead.

(L to R) Jeffrey Kupfer, Karen Bahan, Noelle Spalding and Theresa Alvillar-SpeakeThe DOE Small Business Awards program was established to recognize annual performance by Departmental offices, facility management contractors and small business ventures. In Fiscal Year 2007 (FY07), the EMCBC and its serviced sites awarded more than $275M, approximately one-third of its total contracting dollars to small businesses. The accomplishment far exceeds both the FY07 DOE goal of 4.42%, developed in conjunction with the Small Business Administration, and the percent of dollars awarded to small businesses by the EMCBC and its serviced sites in 2005 and 2006. Congratulations to the EMCBC for a superior team effort in aggressively promoting contracting opportunities for the nation's small business community.
