The EMCBC sponsored the “Fifteenth Annual Greater Cincinnati Regional Science Bowl” on February 4. Twenty-four teamsfrom Ohio and Kentucky participated in the day-long event in which teams answered questions covering astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, mathematics and general science. After an intense day of quizzing, a team from Beavercreek High School near Dayton, Ohio, emerged as the winner, taking home the “2006 Championship Honors.” Fairfield High School was runner-up and a team from Centerville High School placed third. Beavercreek High School will represent our area at the DOE National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. April 27-May 1. Energy Secretary Samuel W. Bodman will host the final day’s competition at the Forrestal Building.

Two key partners in the event were Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, who donated the use of their facility and quizzing equipment for the competition, and DOE’s Office of Legacy Management’s support contractor S.M. Stoller Co, who donated the services of Sue Walpole as overall event coordinator. Approximately 50 volunteers from the EMCBC, Ohio Field Office, Fernald and Mound contractor organizations, and retirees did a terrific job to ensure the day’s success.
